Luxury edition of the famous Horace illustrations by Aristide Maillol.
1 of 50 Roman-numbered copies of the special edition with two additional suites of woodcuts in black and reddish-brown, signed by the publisher in the imprint and on the suite covers. - A good example of this important book illustration by Maillol; it was originally planned by Harry Graf Kessler for the Cranach Press, but later taken over and realized by Ph. Gonin in Paris. The prints were created in 1939, but the hand-printed proofs were not completed until 1958.
BINDING: Loose pages in illustrated original covers and original half-parchment cover with black-embossed spine illustration, each in a slipcase. 21.5 x 14 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: With 125 original woodcuts by A. Maillol. - CONDITION: Spine slightly darkened. Overall, a fine, clean copy with good woodcut impressions.
