Early life and education
-
Born on June 18, 1918 in Naunhof (near Leipzig).
-
He showed an interest in art and crafts from an early age. From 1932 to 1936, he began an apprenticeship as a gardener and stonemason at the company Günther & Fiedler in Beucha near Leipzig.
-
From about 1940 he continued his formal artistic training:
-
1940–41: Studied at the Academy of Graphic Arts in Leipzig under Alfred Thiele.
-
1944: Sculpture class at the School of Applied Arts in Leipzig.
-
1945: Woodcarving school in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
-
1948–49: Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, including under Max Körner and Hermann Schorer.
-
Professional activity and work
-
Rudolf Scheibe was versatile: He was a painter, draftsman, sculptor, stonemason and also taught as a drawing teacher.
-
Stylistically, he often deals with nude depictions, often in an expressive-realistic manner, using a wide variety of materials and techniques (e.g., watercolor, pen and ink, ink, pen, chalk, etc.).
-
Technique and expression are often characterized by clear contours, strong lines, and a certain directness in the depiction of living forms. The representation of the human body often plays a central role.
